Associate Professor of Medicine, Palliative Medicine

Dr. Megan Rau is a geriatrician and palliative care physician with expertise in providing comprehensive care for older adults and supporting patients with serious illnesses. As a geriatrician she serves as Medical Director of the Geriatric Assessment Clinic at the Center for Advanced Medicine, where she focuses on managing complex conditions such as memory decline, dementia, delirium, polypharmacy, falls, frailty and advanced care planning.

In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Rau is a dedicated clinician-educator, collaborating closely with medical students, residents and fellows. She is set to transition into the role of Program Director for the Geriatric Fellowship at WashU Medicine in 2025.

As a palliative care physician, Dr. Rau works with a team to provide supportive care of patients with serious illness in the outpatient setting, including those with cancer, neurological disorders, advanced kidney disease, and dementia. Her care emphasizes symptom management, advanced care planning, caregiver support, and end of life / hospice care.
